Meet the Range Road Family

Your Veterinarians

Dr. Katrina Ponich

Dr. Katrina Ponich was lucky enough to be born and raised in Beaumont surrounded by her furry best friends. She graduated from Ecole Secondaire Beaumont Composite High School in 2007 after completing an honours diploma in English and French Immersion. After high school, she began a Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Alberta specializing in Psychology. Initially, she had planned to pursue a career in counselling, but quickly realized her heart had a different path chosen for her. She has always loved country living and animals of all shapes and sizes, it only made sense to combine her two greatest passions and pursue a degree in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary.

After completing her education, she came home and happily accepted a position at the Tri-Municipal and Meridian Veterinary Clinics west of Edmonton. There, she was thrilled to practice on all critters, great and small! While most of her days focused on small animals surgery and medicine, she also spent a lot of time with the farmers and producers in the area, working with cattle and horses. After a wonderful experience out west, she is excited to come home and build a clinic that captures the veterinary experience she wants for her own pups and a work family that she is excited to see every day.

Thanks to the loving support of her family, neighbours and community, Katrina is happy to be home, doing what she loves! In her spare time, Katrina loves to spend time with her husband and their two sweet pooches, Maisy and Murphy. She will also (reluctantly..) admit she has a weakness for trash TV and binge watching Netflix. Katrina is excited to be serving the animals and families in her beautiful hometown of Beaumont.

“I consider it an honour, that you have chosen me and my team to take care of your furry family members. My goal is to give you every option, from the gold standard to other feasible choices so that you can pick the best for you and your family. Barn kitties to purse pooches, every dog and cat is unique, you know your pet and your goals the best!  I promise to always listen, encourage collaboration and support your decisions without judgement.  I am confident that, together, we can come up with the best care for your family. I want to support the amazing relationship you have with your pet and help create happier, healthier and longer lives.”

Dr. Brianne Cheng

Dr. Brianne Cheng was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Animal Health at the University of Alberta in 2014, before being accepted at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine and graduating in 2018. While Brianne enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, she is most interested in companion animal medicine and pathology. In her spare time, Brianne enjoys reading, trying out new recipes for cooking and baking, and attempting to cuddle with Siggy, her orange cat.

Brianne is thrilled to be a part of Range Road Veterinary Clinic and looks forward to meeting all clients and patients!

Dr. Alisha Janzen

Dr. Alisha Janzen was born in Southern Ontario and raised alongside the family cats, dogs, and extended family’s herds of dairy cows.  At the age of 8, she decided to become a veterinarian, and never second guessed that choice!
After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2004, she and her husband moved to Saskatoon, SK for what they expected to be a 1 year internship in Large Animal Medicine at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.  A 4 year residency and a Master’s Degree in Veterinary Science later, she was thrilled to be working at a small rural clinic in Saskatchewan that served both large and small animals.
More changes came in 2012.  With the birth of her first child, and her husband completing his post-graduate degrees, they settled outside Edmonton for her husband’s new faculty position with The King’s University.  After her maternity leave Alisha made the decision to switch exclusively to small animal practice, which better suited her young family.
After 7 years in practice in South Edmonton, Alisha is excited to join the team at the Range Road Veterinary Clinic! When not at work, Alisha can usually be found chasing after her 2 energetic young children; walking her aging but spry beagle, or with her nose in a good book.

Dr. Dani Montoya

Dr. Dani Montoya decided at the age of 4 that she would like to become a veterinarian – at that time though, she specifically wanted to be an “Astronaut Vet!” looking after dogs and monkeys on their interstellar journeys! Since then, her career goals have shifted but her love of animals and constant drive for learning new things are unchanged. Dr. Dani finished high school in Wales and then returned to Alberta to pursue her undergrad at the University of Alberta. She went on to graduate from the University of Calgary with her Doctor in Veterinary Medicine in 2017.

Dr. Dani loves getting to meet (and snuggle) all the furbabies – it is amazing to see how they interact with their people and to watch their unique personalities shine. She takes pride in working with families to formulate a healthcare plan that works for each individual pet.

When not at work, Dr. Dani can be found attempting to actualize her latest sewing idea, trying to be a soccer player, watching Formula One with her friends, or going on backpacking travel adventures with her husband. She also loves taking photos of her ever-so-sophisticated tabby cat Frosty, the spicy but adorable kitten Aperol and the “such a good boy” German Shepherd Winston.

Dr. Meryam Shillingford

Dr. Shillingford is a locum veterinarian in the Edmonton area and joined Range Road Veterinary Clinic in 2021. Before that she worked as a mixed animal practitioner for almost four years before transitioning to small animal practice. Dr. Shillingford graduated from the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program at the University of Calgary and prior to that, had attained a degree in Immunology and Infection at the University of Alberta.

Outside of work Dr. Shillingford enjoys outdoor sports and hiking with her dog.

Your Registered Veterinary Technologists

Shea Hallman

Shea has been surrounded by animals her entire life, from dogs and cats to horses, beef and dairy cattle. The choice to become a Registered Veterinary Technologist was a twisty, but logical journey. Shea moved from rural central Alberta to Edmonton and graduated with honours from the NAIT Animal Technology Program in 2011. She joined the Range Road Veterinary Clinic team when it opened in 2019. Shea is very interested in laboratory diagnostics, parasites, and client education!

In her spare time, Shea enjoys spending time with her friends and family (husband, two children, dog, and cats), as well as gardening, walking, and reading.  Please feel free to ask Shea any questions you have about your pet, she is happy to help!

Alison Maskowitz

Alison grew up on a farm in Mayerthorpe Alberta with a large variety of animals including mixed cattle, horses, chickens, rabbits, dogs and cats. Her passion for animals came alive when she graduated from Fairview College and became a technician. She worked in the veterinary world for 10 years and decided to switch things up a little bit and enter the human world as an emergency medical technician. Eventually, her love for animals ran too deep so she returned back to the veterinary world. Since then she has never looked back.

In Alison’s spare time she enjoys nature walks, gardening and spending time with her husband Ryan and two kids, Brock and Emma. They have recently welcomed a new addition to their family, a poodle named Philly Chilly Cheese Dog who they adore more than anything.

Megan Shaul

Megan felt a strong connection with animals from a young age, and has always known that she wanted to work with them. After working as a kennel assistant for a couple of years, she went on to graduate with honours from the Animal Health Technology program at NAIT in 2018. She was born and raised in Stony Plain, where she currently lives with her cat, Lily. When not at work, Megan enjoys spending time outdoors, being with friends, and watching Netflix to unwind.

Paige Smylie

Paige was taught the meaning of unconditional love at a very young age from all the animals she surrounded herself with. She quickly came to realize that her passion and drive to help could be turned into something wonderful. Paige graduated from Nait’s Animal Health Technology Program in 2020. During her first year at Nait, she adopted River, as if studying and finals wasn’t enough for her! River is the absolute sweetest German Shepherd/Husky mix with the biggest ears anyone has ever seen! Paige drove all the way down to Calgary to adopt her from a local rescue called AARCS. Once she graduated, she joined a small animal practice in Edmonton where she did a lot of assisting with orthopedic surgeries and procedures. Orthopedics quickly became a passion of hers, now she is aspiring to specialize in surgery and rehabilitation so she is able to help make a difference for our four legged companions. Orthopedics is where she discovered her other passion, Vinny, or “The Italian Stallion”. Vinny is a Cane Corso, born in Brazil and flown all the way here. He came to her with severe bilateral hip dysplasia as a 120 pound, 10-month-old puppy. Vinny’s prognosis was quite poor without the proper treatment and medical management of his hips. He needed not one, but both of his hips replaced. Paige instantly fell in love with this gentle giant, not to mention his sweet face and ice blue eyes sure didn’t help. That is how Vinny (also known as Vin Diesel) found his way into Paige’s family. To date Vinny has had his right hip fully replaced, he is recovered and doing well. When Paige isn’t spending her time with the Range Road family, she is usually at the pet store spoiling her fur babes despite what her loving fiancée says!
